Dark Moon Audio is a small plugin company in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This page explains what we collect on this website, in Dark Moon Hub and when you buy, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We don't sell your personal information.
Questions or requests go to support@darkmoonaudio.ca. That inbox reaches the person responsible for privacy at Dark Moon Audio.
On this website
Hosting
The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles the technical details your browser sends with each request, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver the pages and protect them from attacks.
Meta Pixel
We use the Meta Pixel, a piece of code from Meta (the company behind Facebook and Instagram), to measure our ads and to show ads to people who have visited the site. When you use the site, it tells Meta that you:
- viewed a page,
- clicked to download Dark Moon Hub (and whether it was the Windows or Mac version),
- added a plugin to your cart, or started checkout (which plugins and the price), and
- came back to the site after paying (which plugins and the total).
Meta also receives what your browser normally sends, such as your IP address and browser details, and may use its own cookies (for example _fbp). If you're signed in to Facebook or Instagram, Meta may link this to your account. Meta's use of this data is covered by Meta's privacy policy.
You can turn this off by blocking third-party cookies or using a content blocker in your browser, and you can manage it on Meta's side under Your activity off Meta technologies in your Facebook or Instagram settings.
Your browser's storage
The site saves your light/dark theme choice and your cart in your own browser so they're still there next time. That stays on your device; we don't receive it.
When you buy
Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them. Stripe's handling of your payment is covered by Stripe's privacy policy.
After you pay, Stripe gives us your name, your email address, what you bought and the order reference. We use them to create your unlock code, email it to you, and help you if something goes wrong. The email is sent through our email provider, Resend.
In Dark Moon Hub and the plugins
Starting a free trial
Before a trial starts, the Hub asks for your email address and whether you'd like news from us. It sends that to our license server along with:
- which plugin you're trying,
- a computer ID: a one-way scrambled code made from your computer's hardware ID. It's only useful to Dark Moon Audio's licensing, and it can't be turned back into the original ID,
- your computer's name and whether it's a Windows or Mac computer, and
- your IP address.
We use these to give each computer one trial per plugin and to stop people from abusing trials.
Unlocking with a code
When you unlock, the Hub sends your code, the computer ID, your computer's name and system. A code works on up to three computers, and this is how we keep track of which ones and let you free one up. From time to time the Hub and plugins check in with the license server (sending the computer ID and your codes) to keep your licenses current and to find updates.
Wrong codes
If someone types wrong codes, we count the attempts per IP address for each hour, so we can block people trying to guess codes.
Emails
We email you your unlock code and messages about your purchase or trial. We only send news and offers if you ticked the box to say yes, and you can ask us to stop at any time by emailing support@darkmoonaudio.ca.
Who else handles your information
Only the service providers that run things for us:
- Cloudflare: website hosting, the license server and its database.
- Stripe: payments.
- Resend: sending emails.
- Meta: the Meta Pixel described above.
Some of these companies store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it is subject to the laws there.
How long we keep it
We keep purchase, code and activation records for as long as you have the license, and as long as tax and accounting rules require. Trial records are kept so the same computer can't restart a trial it has already used. Wrong-code counts are only used to block repeated guessing.
Your choices
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@darkmoonaudio.ca and we'll reply within 30 days. If we delete your purchase and license records, we may not be able to restore your licenses later.
If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
